Switching mobile network providers in the UAE doesn't mean you have to lose your phone number. Major telecom companies like du, e&, and Virgin Mobile offer number portability services, allowing you to retain your existing number even when you change service providers. This is particularly important as your phone number is often linked to vital documents like your Emirates ID and bank accounts.

Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you through the process of switching mobile networks in the UAE while keeping your phone number.

Requirements

To initiate the switch, you’ll need:

  • A copy of your Emirates ID.
  • Your latest salary certificate if you’re opting for a postpaid plan (minimum salary: Dh2,500 per month).

Switching to du

You can switch to du by visiting any of their stores or by handling the process online. Here’s how:

  1. Visit the du website.
  2. Click on the 'Change number to du' option.
  3. Enter the mobile number you want to bring over to du.
  4. Choose between a postpaid or prepaid plan.
  5. Select your preferred monthly mobile power plan.
  6. du will deliver an activated SIM card to your doorstep. Ensure you provide accurate personal details like your name, mobile number, and address.

You’ll receive updates on your request via SMS, or you can check the status by calling 800 CHANGE (800 242643).

Shifting to e&

Similar to du, you can either visit an e& store or switch online:

  1. Visit the e& website.
  2. Click on the 'Consumer' tab and scroll down to 'How to switch'.
  3. Fill out the form provided.
  4. An e& customer representative will contact you to assist with the process.

For additional help, use the live chat feature on their website. Make sure your current number is suspended by your existing service provider and that all financial obligations are settled before the switch.

Switching to Virgin Mobile

You can transfer your number to Virgin Mobile through their website or app:

  1. On the Virgin Mobile website, click "Transfer my number to Virgin Mobile" and follow the prompts.
  2. Create your Virgin Mobile account and confirm your request.

Alternatively, through the Virgin Mobile app:

  1. Sign up on the app.
  2. Tap on “My Numbers” and then “Bring Your Current Number From The Menu”.
  3. Confirm you have a valid Emirates ID.

You’ll receive a temporary number from Virgin Mobile while your transfer is processed. If switching from e&, it takes one business day; if from du, it takes two business days.

Fees

  • du: No additional costs beyond the standard activation fee for prepaid plans. For postpaid plans, the activation fee is waived.
  • e& and Virgin Mobile: Switching is free, though an upfront payment might be required depending on the postpaid plan you choose.

By following these steps, you can easily switch your mobile network provider in the UAE while keeping your existing phone number, ensuring continuity in your communications and connected services.
