The International Monetary Fund (IMF), in partnership with the New Media Academy, organised a specialised workshop in Dubai aimed at enhancing economic reporting and social media content creation across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

The workshop brought together journalists and digital content creators who focus on economics and finance, highlighting the growing importance of clear and accessible economic communication in the digital age.

Titled “Economic and Social Media Content Creation Skills and Impact of AI on Media,” the workshop was organised by the IMF’s Regional Office in Riyadh and its Communications Department, and hosted at Creators HQ, a UAE-based content creator hub under Visioneers Group. The sessions featured senior IMF officials and leading media and content industry experts, offering a blend of economic insight and practical storytelling guidance.

Discussions focused on key economic and financial challenges facing the MENA region, while also exploring effective ways to translate complex economic concepts into engaging, easy-to-understand content for social media audiences. Participants examined how artificial intelligence and influencers are reshaping the media landscape, and shared tools and techniques to improve clarity, accuracy, and impact in economic storytelling.

Speakers included senior representatives from the IMF, New Media Academy, SRMG Academy, and Asharq Bloomberg, who collectively emphasised the need to simplify economic terminology, particularly for younger audiences who consume most of their information through social platforms.

Hussein Al Atoli, Director of the New Media Academy, highlighted the workshop’s goal of strengthening objective economic communication and improving public understanding. He noted that Generation Z accounts for a significant share of global social media users and is expected to wield purchasing power worth USD 12.6 trillion annually by 2030, making them a critical audience for credible economic content.

IMF officials underscored the demand for people-centred economic narratives across the region and reaffirmed their commitment to collaborating with media professionals and creators. The workshop forms part of the IMF’s broader engagement with global media and digital influencers, supporting the use of research and data to create meaningful content that explains how sound economic policies can improve lives.
