As the novel Coronavirus continues to swiftly spread across the world, stringent guidelines are being placed on us every day. At times, being in self-isolation at home may be jarring and cause feelings of loneliness and stress.

A lot of advice is being issued during this time about the importance of keeping physically healthy through social distancing and washing your hands; however, it is equally important to manage your mental health as it is vital to your overall well-being.

The following practices may help you navigate your anxieties around COVID-19, and hopefully leave you feeling calmer:

Be empathetic

While these times are extremely trying and cause us to turn inwards, it is important we feel connected through empathy. Stay connected to your loved ones, try to be aware of the good that you have. Be compassionate to yourself and others in your life, and keep in mind that everyone copes in different manners.

Focus on what you can control

Anxiety during a pandemic is a normal response, it simply prompts us to seek out an action plan. While so much seems chaotic, offering help to others may be a manner of claiming some control over the situation. Moreover, make sure to avoid panic buying in order to leave enough behind for everyone else to buy too.

Following an established routine

Disruption to the daily routine may turn out to be the most difficult factor while being in isolation. Structure your day into an organised schedule, and prioritize work, exercise, and play. Make sure to do things that uplift your spirits to avoid the monotony.
