The seventh edition of the International Rain Enhancement Forum (IREF) concluded today at Conrad Abu Dhabi at Etihad Towers, marking a significant milestone for the UAE’s efforts in weather modification and water security.

Organised by the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) and the UAE Research Programme for Rain Enhancement Science (UAEREP), the event attracted over 600 scientists, researchers, and experts across three days of insightful discussions.

This year’s forum focused on five key pillars: Collaboration, Innovation, Capacity Building, Artificial Intelligence, and Applied Research. Over 50 speakers from around the world shared their expertise on topics such as Artificial Intelligence in weather modification, innovations in Autonomous Aerial Systems, and advancements in Cloud Seeding Materials. The forum also featured youth engagement initiatives, highlighting the importance of the next generation in tackling global water scarcity challenges.

A standout moment was the launch of the sixth cycle of UAEREP’s research proposal submissions, with grants of up to US$1.5 million (AED 5.511 million) for winning projects. This initiative is aimed at driving forward innovative solutions for water security and sustainable resource management.

H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan honoured distinguished individuals and institutions for their contributions to the programme’s success. Dr. Abdulla Al Mandous, Director-General of NCM, emphasized the UAE’s leadership in pioneering cutting-edge technologies to address global water scarcity.
