Jafza and Imdaad Reduce Landfill Waste by 37% with Waste-to-Fuel Innovation
Jebel Ali Freezone (Jafza) and Imdaad have achieved a 37% reduction in landfill waste within nine months, thanks to a new Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) plant. The facility processes 150 tonnes of waste daily, converting it into clean energy to power industrial furnaces, significantly cutting reliance on fossil fuels.
Key achievements since January 2024 include:
- Generating 312 million kWh of renewable energy.
- Saving over 201,137 trees by reducing CO2 emissions.
- Conserving 2.2 million cubic metres of landfill space.
This initiative, part of a joint venture under FARZ, aims to divert 80% of waste from landfills by 2026, aligning with the UAE’s sustainability goals. The RDF plant, located in Jebel Ali, supports the circular economy by transforming waste into resources for industrial use.
Leaders from Jafza, Imdaad, and DP World highlighted the project’s role in driving environmental sustainability and innovation. Similar waste management initiatives by DP World globally, such as in Brazil and Mexico, showcase scalable solutions for a sustainable future.
