Japan has announced the resumption of its e-visa services for UAE residents, who can now apply for this service through VFS Global starting August 1, 2024. This move, confirmed by the Consulate-General of Japan in Dubai, aims to streamline the visa application process for UAE residents.
From August 1, the Consulate-General of Japan in Dubai will cease to accept visa applications directly, except for diplomatic and official visas. All other visa inquiries and applications will be handled by VFS Global, which has been listed as a partner of the Embassy of Japan in the UAE and the Consulate-General of Japan in Dubai.
This new process applies only to residents in Dubai. Those living in Abu Dhabi will still need to apply through the embassy. The VFS Global website provides comprehensive details on visa application requirements, documentation, booking, opening hours, and processing times.
The reintroduction of the e-visa is a significant relief for UAE expatriates, allowing them to complete the entire visa application process online, from payment application. This change is expected to make Japan a highly sought-after destination once again, after the e-visa facility was suspended on April 27, 2024. Before this, residents had to email the consulate for an appointment, often struggling to secure slots.
The new partnership with VFS Global ensures a standard processing period of eight working days, provided all required documents are submitted. The short-term e-visa permits entry into Japan for 90 days and is valid for three months from the date of issuance. Eligible applicants include residents from countries such as Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the USA, who can apply for the e-visa for tourism purposes.
