Kenya Launches Digital Nomad Work Permit to Attract Remote Professionals
Kenya has introduced a Digital Nomad Work Permit and a Transit & Long Connection Travelers Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to enhance the country's appeal to digital professionals and long-haul travelers. These new permits make it easier for global nomads and transit passengers to explore Kenya's unique tourism offerings.
Key Highlights:
- The Digital Nomad Work Permit is designed for professionals who want to live and work remotely in Kenya.
- The Transit & Long Connection ETA allows travelers with layovers to explore the country, rather than wait in terminals.
- In 2023, Kenya's tourism earnings hit a record high of KSh 352.54 billion, and visitor numbers rose by 32% to 1.95 million.
The global digital nomad population is expected to rise from 40 million in 2023 to over 60 million by 2030. Kenya now joins four other African countries—Mauritius, Seychelles, Cape Verde, and Namibia—that have introduced digital nomad frameworks.
President Ruto stated,
"The Digital Nomad Work Permit targets digital professionals globally, while the Transit ETA offers visitors a chance to experience Magical Kenya."
Kenya's tourism industry remains a major contributor to the economy, and it aims to attract over 5 million visitors annually by 2027.
