The 4th edition of the Labour Sports Tournament, organised by Dubai Sports Council (DSC) in collaboration with the Permanent Committee of Labor Affairs in Dubai and Dubai Police under the title “Their Happiness is Our Goal”, was successfully concluded with distinctive participation of more than 35,500 laborers.
Participants in the Labour Sports Tournament competed in 11 sports competitions; as follows: kabaddi, football, basketball, volleyball, badminton, arm wrestling, yoga, tug of war, cricket, road race and swimming.
The 4th edition of the Tournament has featured 10 positive elements that enhanced its status and role to bring joy to society and boost co-existence among all classes. Top on the list of these positive elements, as unveiled in the final report of the Tournament, is the remarkable increase in the number of participants, as they have exceeded 35,576 participants, among them were 1643 females; i.e. with a remarkable increase of more than 40 percent comparing to the numbers of participants in the last editions of the event.
Cricket, football, and basketball were the most competitions which were held with the participation of huge numbers of laborers throughout the last editions of the Tournament.
More than 750 teams competed in the various competitions of the 4th edition of the Tournament. 257 companies contributed to the event. Two new sports competitions were added to the Tournament; these were the padel and kabaddi. The competitions were managed by 154 referees. The various competitions of the Tournament took place at 73 stadiums and pitches in 15 sports locations and 11 labour accommodations. Several companies hosted the competitions; the most notable were: Dubai Holding, DUTCO, Dulsco and Al-Ghurair Food Stuff Manufacturing.
The 4th edition of the Tournament was widely covered by local and global media. Several TV channels telecasted the various competitions of the Tournament to millions of fans from different world countries.
DSC organises the Labour Sports Tournament to give laborers a unique opportunity to exercise their favorite sports, spend entertaining time, break the daily routine of work, cement social ties with counterparts in other entities, and improved their level of physical fitness. It also brings joy to laborers, provides them with physical fitness, and helps them to increase productivity. The Tournament meets DSC’s strategy to create a distinctive and happy sports society.
DSC praised the remarkable efforts of the supporting entities; top of which are: the Permanent Committee of Labour Affairs in Dubai, Dubai Police, and the Positive Soul Initiative, addition to the Tournament’s sponsors; are: DP World, Dubai Holding, DUTCO, Dulsco, Landmark, World Security, and Taqdeer Award.
DSC has launched sports initiatives for laborers since 2010, under the title “The First Labour Sports Festival”, with the participation of thousands of laborers of various ages & multi-nationalities. Since then, these sports initiatives have acquired special attention and attained remarkable development. DSC had organized, during the last period, the 4th edition of the Tournament with the distinctive participation of more than 35500 laborers.
