Mahzooz Plans New Ventures as UAE Awards First Lottery Licence to The Game

Both Mahzooz and Emirates Draw paused their operations earlier this year following a government directive.

The team behind the popular Mahzooz draw is now planning “new ventures,” according to a statement issued on Sunday by its managing operator, Ewings. This announcement comes after the UAE named The Game LLC the country’s first licensed lottery operator.

“Although we have not been awarded the national lottery license in the UAE, we are planning exciting new ventures and look forward to sharing more details soon,”

the statement by Ewings read.

Ewings expressed disappointment at not receiving the license, stating they were informed of the decision through “official channels.”

“Following the industry-wide pause mandated on January 1st, 2024, EWINGS was recently informed through official channels that it has not been awarded the UAE's first authorized lottery,”

the statement said.

“While this delayed decision is indeed disappointing, especially since we kept our workforce at full capacity for the past 7 months in anticipation of a positive decision, we respect the selection process and the government’s commitment to setting standards within the industry.”

Protecting Consumers

On Sunday, the Gaming Control and Government Relations Authority (GCGRA) announced that the new regulatory framework aims to protect consumers and ensure fairness and transparency in all commercial gaming activities, including lotteries. According to The Game LLC’s website, the company will offer a “diverse range” of lottery and other games to cater to various interests and financial preferences.

Mahzooz Achievements

Despite the setback, Ewings highlighted Mahzooz’s achievements over the past three years.

“We take this opportunity to reiterate that over three years, we have successfully operated 161 live draws that have changed the lives of millions, creating 66 millionaires and awarding over AED 500 million to more than 2 million players. Simultaneously, Mahzooz has also been a force for good in the UAE, contributing to several causes in healthcare, education, the environment, and more, significantly supporting various charitable initiatives,”

the statement read.

Future Plans

While Mahzooz did not secure the national lottery license, Ewings is optimistic about the future and is working on new ventures to continue its mission of transforming lives and contributing to the community.
