Mastercard and Amazon Payment Services have entered a multi-year partnership to digitize payment acceptance across the Middle East and Africa, including countries such as Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, South Africa, and the UAE. The collaboration will see Amazon Payment Services integrate the Mastercard Gateway, offering merchants seamless and secure transactions in over 40 markets.

This partnership will benefit thousands of merchants, including Amazon online stores in the UAE and Egypt, while opening opportunities to collaborate with telecoms and governments to enhance their checkout options. Mastercard’s Payment Industry Insights reveal that 95% of consumers in the region are exploring new payment methods, such as digital wallets and contactless payments, underscoring the growing demand for digital solutions.

Amnah Ajmal, Executive Vice President, Market Development, Mastercard, said:

“We are proud to partner with Amazon Payment Services to scale payment acceptance and accelerate the digitization of payments with innovative solutions.”

Amazon Payment Services Managing Director, Peter George, highlighted the benefits of Mastercard Gateway, stating it will help expand their reach as a payment service provider and reduce integration complexities for merchants.

The two companies have also signed an innovation agreement to develop solutions such as Secure Card on File, Click to Pay, and token authentication services, which will offer faster checkout options and increased security for customers.
