The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tokyo-based SpaceData, a startup focused on the fusion of space and digital technologies.
The partnership aims to develop two key digital twin platforms, revolutionizing both space exploration and economic initiatives.
As part of the collaboration, SpaceData will create a high-fidelity lunar digital twin platform for the Emirates Lunar Mission. Using MBRSC’s rover observation data, the platform will enhance mission efficiency and provide training simulations for UAE astronauts. The digital twin will replicate lunar surface conditions, offering 3D spatial and environmental data to improve astronaut training and mission accuracy.
Additionally, SpaceData will develop an Earth-based digital twin for Dubai’s urban environment. The project will boost tourism and economic growth by providing immersive virtual experiences of the city, transcending geographical limitations. Integrating satellite and meteorological data, the platform will also simulate disaster scenarios, aiding in the prediction and management of large-scale events and enhancing safety measures.
Adnan AlRais, Assistant Director General at MBRSC, highlighted the importance of this partnership in advancing space exploration and supporting Dubai’s sustainable development goals.
"This collaboration will enhance the precision of lunar missions and create innovative solutions for economic growth,"
he said.
Atsushi Takata, Executive Vice President of SpaceData, expressed excitement about the partnership’s potential, stating,
“Together with MBRSC, we aim to redefine the future of space exploration and unlock new economic and scientific possibilities.”
This agreement underscores MBRSC’s dedication to fostering international partnerships that drive technological innovation and contribute to global progress.
