The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) and the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) have opened applications for PHI-3, the third opportunity under the Payload Hosting Initiative (PHI), announced at the 77th International Astronautical Congress in Antalya, Türkiye.

PHI is a joint programme between MBRSC and UNOOSA’s “Access to Space for All” initiative. MBRSC develops and provides a 12U CubeSat platform that hosts payloads and emerging space technologies from around the world. Partners can test and validate their technologies in orbit as part of a real space mission backed by MBRSC’s technical and operational capabilities.

PHI-3 builds on the first two missions and keeps its focus on inclusive testing, collaboration and innovation. Companies, universities, research centres and emerging space entities can take part. The programme also supports knowledge exchange across satellite design, manufacturing, testing, launch, operations and data analysis.

Amer AlSayegh AlGhaferi, Assistant Director General of the Aerospace Engineering Sector at MBRSC, said the programme reflects a shared vision with UNOOSA to widen participation in the global space sector and open a pathway for new ideas, technologies and talent.

Aarti Holla-Maini, Director of UNOOSA, said access to space is about building skills, experience and confidence as much as reaching orbit. She urged teams from countries that have not yet reached space to apply.

PHI-1 launched in November 2025 with payloads from Bahrain Space Agency, Antarikchya Pratisthan Nepal and Sharjah Space and Astronomy Hub. For PHI-2, the Technical University of Moldova and UAE-based Madari Space Limited were selected.

Applications for PHI-3 close on April 6, 2027. MBRSC and UNOOSA will jointly evaluate proposals, and awardees are expected to be announced in the last quarter of 2027.
