Dubai’s Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre has joined forces with the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation to develop an integrated platform for maritime and coastal monitoring, the organizations announced at GITEX Global 2025.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by H.E. Salem Humaid AlMarri, Director General of MBRSC, and H.E. Nasser Abdulla Al Neyadi, CEO of PCFC, at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The partnership aims to leverage space-based data to enhance marine observation, security, and environmental protection across Dubai’s coastline.
Under the agreement, both entities will collaborate on monitoring coastline changes, tracking ship movements, analyzing trajectories, and identifying disruptions to the Automatic Identification System. The platform will also support continuous observation of sea conditions, wave activity, weather patterns, and pollution, including detection and tracking of oil spills.
H.E. AlMarri highlighted the strategic importance of the initiative, stating it strengthens decision-making accuracy and builds a robust monitoring infrastructure that supports environmental protection, maritime security, and long-term sustainability.
H.E. Al Neyadi emphasized the benefits for Dubai’s ports and marine operations, noting the platform will enhance efficiency, monitor emissions, and improve oil spill detection. He added that the collaboration aligns with Dubai’s vision to become a global hub for marine innovation and sustainability.
The partnership builds on MBRSC’s recent satellite launches, including MBZ-SAT, the region’s most advanced satellite, and Etihad-SAT, the Centre’s first Synthetic Aperture Radar satellite. Combined, these satellites provide high-resolution optical and radar imaging to deliver precise Earth observation data for civil, maritime, and sustainability applications.
By integrating these technologies, Dubai aims to strengthen its marine monitoring capabilities, advance digital decision-making, and solidify its leadership in port and free zone management.
