Meta is introducing a new feature for Instagram users to reset their content recommendations, offering a "fresh start" for those dissatisfied with the platform's algorithm. Initially aimed at teens but planned for global rollout, the feature will let users clear recommendations across Explore, Reels, and Feed.
Once reset, Instagram's algorithm will gradually relearn user preferences based on new interactions. Additionally, users can review and unfollow accounts they no longer wish to see. However, the reset cannot be undone.
Meta explained in a blog post that the feature is designed to enhance user experiences, particularly for teens, ensuring their time on the platform aligns with their evolving interests. Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, noted the reset will make Instagram less personalized initially, but it provides a valuable option for users dissatisfied with their feed.
This update follows similar steps by TikTok, which launched a recommendation reset feature for its "For You" feed last year. Meta also recently set stricter default settings for "teen accounts" to promote safer and more appropriate experiences for users under 18.
