Meta Platforms has introduced Muse Spark, its first artificial intelligence model developed by a dedicated team formed last year to strengthen its position in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
The launch marks the beginning of a new series of models internally known as Avocado, designed as part of the company’s long-term push toward more advanced systems, including those aligned with the concept of superintelligence, where machines could potentially surpass human reasoning.
Muse Spark, the first model released by Meta in roughly a year, will initially be available through the Meta AI app and website. The company plans to integrate the model more broadly in the coming weeks, replacing its existing Llama-based systems across platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and its smart glasses ecosystem.
According to Meta, the model has been built to be both lightweight and efficient while maintaining the ability to handle complex queries across fields like science, mathematics, and health. It also serves as a foundation for more advanced iterations already under development.
Beyond conversational capabilities, Muse Spark introduces practical features aimed at everyday use. These include estimating calorie counts from food images and visualizing objects in real-world settings through augmented overlays.
The model also supports multi-agent functionality, enabling users to streamline tasks such as travel planning, where one AI agent can create itineraries while another identifies suitable activities.
The rollout signals Meta’s renewed focus on delivering integrated, user-facing AI tools as competition intensifies across the sector.
