The Ministry of Culture (MOC) concluded the 2025 National Reading Month with the launch of the Reading Ambassadors Initiative, a collaborative effort with the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood and the Federal Youth Authority.

This initiative is designed to foster a culture of reading across the UAE by identifying influential mentors who will serve as literacy advocates.

The inaugural initiative recognizes Reading Ambassadors in four categories: writers and pioneers, youth, volunteers, and children. These selected individuals will lead impactful reading campaigns, promote best practices, and share success stories to inspire communities to embrace reading in their daily lives. Ambassadors will also propose and implement innovative projects, particularly within MOC libraries and cultural centers, to create sustainable reading habits.

The involvement of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood aligns with the theme of Emirati Children’s Day 2025, ‘The Right to Identity and National Culture’, emphasizing the importance of Arabic literacy and the preservation of national identity. This synergy highlights the UAE's commitment to nurturing future generations through cultural and educational engagement.

Mubarak Al Nakhi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to making reading a cornerstone of national development, noting that such initiatives drive progress and foster competitiveness. The Reading Ambassadors will be celebrated in an annual forum, with ongoing media support and the creation of dedicated spaces within cultural centers for sharing their projects.

Notable figures in the inaugural group include Sheikha Dr. Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan, Dr. Sultan Al Ameemi, and youth champions of the UAE Arab Reading Challenge, among others. Their participation underscores the transformative power of reading in shaping a knowledgeable, creative, and culturally engaged society.
