MoEI Launches National Green Certificates Programme to Boost Sustainable Building Practices
The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) has unveiled the National Green Certificates Programme, aimed at revolutionizing sustainable building practices in the UAE.
This initiative falls under the National Demand-side Management Programme and the National Green Building Regulation, setting rigorous standards for energy efficiency, water management, indoor air quality, and the use of sustainable materials.
Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, emphasized the Programme's role in promoting a green economy and sustainable development. He highlighted its framework for classifying and implementing sustainable building practices, aligning with global standards to reduce carbon footprints.
In collaboration with key stakeholders, MoEI signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to bolster the Programme's impact. First Abu Dhabi Bank committed to exploring green finance solutions, supporting energy efficiency targets, and promoting sustainable technologies. Aldar Properties joined forces to implement tailored green finance solutions, fostering energy-efficient practices in the built environment sector.
Additionally, Pact Carbon will facilitate access to global carbon credit markets for Programme participants, enhancing sustainability efforts. Meagle Energy will provide crucial energy auditing and Verification services, ensuring adherence to MoEI's stringent guidelines.
Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at MoEI, underscored the Programme's pivotal role in advancing environmental sustainability within the building sector. He emphasized its contribution towards achieving the UAE's net-zero by 2050 target, promoting a resilient infrastructure for future development needs.
The National Green Certificates Programme marks a significant stride towards sustainable building practices in the UAE, reinforcing MoEI's commitment to environmental stewardship and economic resilience.
