The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), in partnership with the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), has unveiled the ambitious Satgate project aimed at transforming the UAE's maritime capabilities.
This groundbreaking initiative integrates satellite and AI technologies to enhance ship tracking, monitor sea conditions, and forecast weather patterns, bolstering the nation's stature as a global maritime leader.
At its core, Satgate will establish a comprehensive database of ships docking at UAE ports, crucial for bolstering maritime security by tracking vessels lacking standard tracking devices. This initiative is pivotal within the MoEI's performance agreements for 2023-2024, aligning with national priorities to propel the UAE into its next phase of development.
Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, underscored the project's significance in fortifying maritime security and boosting the competitiveness of the UAE's maritime sector. He emphasized,
"Harnessing cutting-edge space technologies underscores our commitment to advancing growth and prosperity across all sectors."
The project's implications extend beyond economic benefits, promising advancements in sustainability through improved marine environmental preservation. Al Mazrouei affirmed the UAE's unwavering support for the maritime industry, noting Satgate's role in streamlining decision-making processes with reliable, real-time data.
Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Chairman of MBRSC, hailed Satgate as a milestone in utilizing space technology for maritime sector enrichment. He highlighted its alignment with UAE's vision for sustainable development and affirmed its pivotal role in reinforcing the nation's global maritime prominence.
The Satgate project stands poised to revolutionize the UAE's maritime landscape, driving efficiency, security, and sustainability through innovative technology integration, marking a significant stride towards achieving comprehensive developmental goals.
