The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) has announced the launch of the Smart Mobility Think Tank, in collaboration with Etihad Rail, Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government (MBRSG), the American Centre for Mobility, and The Routing Company.

This initiative is the result of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by the five entities during a special event at the World Government Summit 2023.

The Smart Mobility Think Tank aims to bring together experts and decision-makers from various sectors to share knowledge and collaborate on innovative transport solutions that will inform policies and legislations. The goal is to establish the UAE as a global centre of excellence and innovation for smart mobility, in line with the UAE Smart Mobility Strategy that seeks to position the country among the leading countries in smart intermodal mobility by 2032.

Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, emphasised the need to shift towards smart mobility as demand for sustainable and effective transport systems increases. He stated that the transportation sector is a significant contributor to climate change, and the Think Tank will help the country reduce carbon emissions by tackling challenges and opportunities in the mobility sector.

"In the Year of Sustainability, we are integrating sustainability principles across all aspects of our lives and look forward to advancing collective climate action through collaboration and partnerships at the 28th UN Climate Change Conference (COP28),”

he said.

Shadi Malak, CEO of Etihad Rail, expressed excitement for the MoU and how it will strengthen cooperation with government entities to build the UAE's transportation system while focusing on smart mobility and technology initiatives.

Dr. Ali Sebaa Al Marri, Executive President of Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government (MBRSG), affirmed the research foundation's commitment to using research capabilities to support efforts in developing the mobility sector.

Reuben Sarkar, President and CEO of the American Centre for Mobility, emphasised the importance of the Think Tank as a forum where stakeholders can collaborate and provide insights for the mobility sector in the UAE.

James Cox, CEO of The Routing Company, stated the company's commitment to innovating mobility, improving the quality of life, and enhancing the competitiveness of the UAE.
