The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) recently organized a forum focused on the ethics of artificial intelligence (AI) applications in healthcare.
The event, held in collaboration with strategic partners including the Department of Health-Abu Dhabi, Dubai Health Authority, UAE University, and Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, attracted key stakeholders from government agencies, healthcare institutions, and academia.
Dr. Amin Hussain Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary of Health Regulations Sector, opened the forum, emphasizing the need for the UAE to stay ahead in the rapidly evolving field of AI technology. He highlighted that the ministry's role is to establish frameworks ensuring safe, ethical, and high-quality use of AI in healthcare, including medical diagnostics, treatment, and personalized medicine.
A key highlight of the forum was the review of a draft ethical framework for AI applications in healthcare, developed by the National Centre for Health Research in collaboration with stakeholders. The framework aims to protect personal data, ensure transparency and fairness, uphold quality, and build public trust in AI. It also seeks to standardize ethical AI practices across the sector.
Dr. Al Amiri emphasized that this initiative supports the ministry's strategy to foster an enabling environment for technological advancements while upholding patient safety and ethical standards. The framework will serve as a foundation for the rapid growth of AI in healthcare, positioning the UAE as a global leader in ethical AI development.
The forum also featured an interactive session to gather feedback on the draft framework, reinforcing collaboration between public and private sectors, academic institutions, and health authorities. This collective effort aims to create a unified approach for ethical AI integration in the UAE’s healthcare system.
