MOCCAE and Dubai Industrial City Drive Sustainability Through Innovative Agricultural Practices
The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability and modern agricultural practices by highlighting the vital collaboration between the public and private sectors.
The announcement came as Alia Abdul Rahim Al Harmoudi, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Sustainable Communities Sector at MOCCAE, participated in a tree-planting initiative at Dubai Industrial City’s worker accommodation community.
Aligned with the ‘Plant the Emirates’ National Programme and the ‘Our Green Emirates’ initiative, the event emphasized the shared vision of promoting future-focused environmental sustainability. Al Harmoudi praised the initiative, stating,
“Dubai Industrial City showcases the potential of innovation and technology in advancing the UAE's environmental and food security goals.”
The initiative also reinforces Dubai Industrial City’s contribution to the UAE’s National Food Security Strategy 2051 and the Dubai Food Security Strategy. The district’s focus on sustainable agricultural practices and local production aligns with the UAE’s broader goal of building resilient food supply chains.
During her visit, Al Harmoudi toured Sokovo Nature Farms, a cutting-edge vertical farming facility within Dubai Industrial City’s food and beverage zone. Spanning over 100,000 sq. ft., Sokovo’s hydroponic systems optimize resource use, minimize water consumption, and produce high-yield crops like leafy greens and microgreens for the local market.
Saud Abu Alshawareb, Executive Vice President of Industrial at TECOM Group, emphasized,
“By nurturing innovation and enhancing synergies between manufacturing and the F&B sector, Dubai Industrial City strengthens the UAE’s position as a global leader in sustainable industrial development.”
This partnership, formalized under the Make Brilliance campaign, underscores MOCCAE and Dubai Industrial City’s shared commitment to promoting advanced manufacturing and sustainable practices in line with the UAE’s ambitious vision for the future.
