The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, has unveiled the ‘100,000 Seedlings’ initiative to distribute seedlings to public schools across the UAE.

The initiative aligns with the ‘Plant the Emirates’ National Programme under the ‘National Agriculture Centre,’ aiming to raise awareness among students about agriculture and sustainability.

The launch event took place at Mohammed Bin Khalid School in Al Ain, attended by Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment. She highlighted the initiative’s role in advancing sustainable agriculture and fostering community involvement in greening efforts, with a focus on food security and environmental preservation.

“This initiative will empower future generations with the knowledge and skills to contribute to sustainable agriculture and environmental efforts,”

Dr. Al Dahak stated.

Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of Education, emphasized the cultural and developmental importance of agriculture in Emirati heritage.

The first batch of 15,000 palm seedlings, provided by the Khalifa Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology and Jenaan Investment Company, has been distributed. The Environment Friends Society is engaging volunteers to plant seedlings in schools, promoting community participation.

The initiative also includes workshops for students and staff on tree planting, care, and the environmental benefits of greenery. Schools are set to become green oases, reflecting the UAE’s vision of fostering a sustainable and environmentally conscious society.
