MOCCAE Launches ‘Our Green Emirates’ to Promote Sustainability and Green Spaces Across UAE
The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) has launched the ‘Our Green Emirates’ initiative under the ‘Plant the Emirates’ National Programme.
Aimed at fostering a culture of planting, the initiative encourages individuals, families, government entities, and private sector participation to expand green spaces across the UAE.
The launch coincided with the annual ‘Planting Week,’ a long-standing initiative designed to raise awareness about the importance of planting, boost community involvement, and promote sustainable agricultural practices. This year’s events commenced in Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah.
In Fujairah, school students, in collaboration with the Fujairah Environment Authority, planted local tree species in the UAE Flag yard area. Meanwhile, Ras Al Khaimah saw the inauguration of a new park in Wadi Isfani, involving local residents and students in tree-planting activities.
Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, emphasized the initiative’s role in increasing green spaces and fostering a connection with nature. She highlighted that ‘Planting Week,’ launched over 40 years ago, honors the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and supports national food security through sustainable agriculture.
“By adopting modern technologies and best practices, we aim to build a resilient agricultural sector capable of meeting local food needs,”
Dr. Amna said.
Additional ‘Planting Week’ events will take place across the UAE, involving community members in planting activities and providing training on tree care and propagation techniques. The initiative underscores the UAE’s commitment to sustainability and expanding green spaces for environmental and agricultural development.
