The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment has signed a cooperation agreement with IBM to integrate artificial intelligence into its operations, marking a major step in the UAE’s digital transformation and sustainability goals.
The agreement, announced during GITEX Global 2025 in Dubai, aligns with the nation’s Zero Government Bureaucracy Programme, UAE Centennial 2071, and We the UAE 2031 vision. It was signed in the presence of Dr Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, with Eng. Amal Abdulrahim representing the ministry and Shukri Eid representing IBM.
Abdulrahim said the partnership aims to position AI as a strategic tool to tackle environmental challenges, strengthen food and water security, and support the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 targets. She added that these efforts would create a more agile and efficient government model and reinforce the country’s status as a global sustainability leader.
Eid highlighted that the collaboration underscores a shared commitment to innovation and resilience, adding that the outcomes could serve as a model for the wider region.
Under the agreement, MoCCAE and IBM will develop AI-driven prototypes and case studies to enhance sustainability initiatives, improve efficiency, and boost productivity. Projects include an intelligent system for CITES certificate verification, AI-based fisheries monitoring to ensure sustainable marine stocks, and quarantine inspection systems for agricultural and veterinary consignments.
The cooperation will also explore the creation of a national Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) digital platform for transparent real-time reporting and launch specialised training programmes to equip ministry employees with advanced AI and technology skills.
