The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), in partnership with the Federal Youth Authority, hosted a dynamic discussion titled ‘Youth Leadership in the Shift to Electric Vehicles.’
Held at Rubu Qarn Science and Technology, the event spotlighted Emirati youth’s pivotal role in advancing clean energy and electric vehicle (EV) adoption.
A highlight of the session was the Pole Position EV Racing initiative, a collaboration between the Ministry and private sector partners. This program empowers students to build and race electric cars, fostering hands-on involvement in sustainability.
Notable participants included Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs, Sheikha Jawaher bint Abdullah Al Qassimi, Director of FANN, and Ahmed Al Kaabi, Assistant Undersecretary for Future Energy at MoEI.
Al Olama emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to sustainability, stating,
“Our Pole Position initiative underscores EVs' role in reducing carbon emissions. With initiatives like these, we aim to cultivate youth as leaders of change.”
He also highlighted plans to achieve 50% EV adoption by 2050, supported by UAEV, the government-owned EV charging company. UAEV plans to install 100 chargers in 2024 and exceed 1,000 by 2030.
Ahlam Al Ahmad, Director of Rubu Qarn Science and Technology, added that the Foundation is dedicated to nurturing young innovators through programs that leverage modern technology for sustainability.
The session concluded with a call for strengthened collaboration between government, youth, and private sectors to overcome technical challenges, secure sponsorships for sustainability initiatives, and inspire the younger generation to embrace green technologies.
