The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance cooperation in smart systems, satellite technologies, and remote sensing to boost maritime safety and efficiency across the UAE.
Signed on the sidelines of GITEX Global 2025 by Eng. Mohammed Al Mansoori, Undersecretary for Infrastructure and Transport Affairs at MoEI, and Salem Humaid Al Marri, Director-General of MBRSC, the agreement aims to strengthen maritime monitoring and traffic management through advanced space-based solutions.
The partnership integrates the expertise of both entities to leverage satellite imagery and real-time navigational data for tracking vessel movements, observing marine environments, and supporting emergency response operations. It also includes developing intelligent analysis systems and unified digital platforms to enhance decision-making in maritime operations.
As part of the MoU, MoEI and MBRSC will exchange technical knowledge, train national talent in fields such as space data analysis and navigation systems engineering, and develop algorithms for detecting ships and monitoring coastal changes. A joint working team will oversee the implementation and ensure digital integration between the two sectors.
The collaboration aligns with the UAE’s digital transformation strategy and reinforces its standing as a global leader in both the maritime and space industries.
Al Mansoori said the agreement represents a strategic step toward building an integrated maritime transport system driven by space technologies and artificial intelligence. Al Marri added that the partnership embodies the UAE’s vision of applying advanced technologies to strengthen maritime security and sustainability.
