His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has approved the Al Layan Oasis development project, a new large-scale environmental and recreational destination designed to celebrate the emirate’s desert landscape while advancing sustainability and quality of life.
Spanning one million square metres, the project will feature a lake covering more than 250,000 square metres, alongside integrated infrastructure, landscaped areas, and high-quality visitor facilities. It is expected to attract around 330,000 visitors annually.
Sheikh Mohammed said Dubai’s urban development is guided by a people-centred model that combines high-quality infrastructure, efficient services, and responsible resource management, reinforcing the emirate’s position among the world’s leading future-ready cities.
Al Layan Oasis forms part of Dubai Municipality’s Blue and Green Roadmap 2030, which includes projects valued at more than AED4 billion and focuses on investing in nature to enhance wellbeing. The project also supports the Dubai Countryside and Rural Areas Development Plan, the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033, and the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.
Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, said the oasis represents a milestone in creating integrated natural environments that generate sustainable social and economic value while preserving the desert’s character.
Located around 50 minutes from the city centre and positioned along Dubai’s caravan route, the oasis will include 14 kilometres of walking and cycling tracks, 1,000 parking spaces, and shaded landscaped areas.
The development will be divided into four zones: the Gathering Oasis with event spaces and an open-air cinema, the Family Oasis with play and rest areas, the Camping Oasis accommodating 100 caravans and a visitor centre, and the Recreation Oasis offering activities and retail services.
Designed to the highest environmental standards, Al Layan Oasis is set to become a key addition to Dubai’s growing network of parks and public destinations.
