His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, officially launched the Al Maktoum Archives, a dedicated institution aimed at preserving and documenting the rich history and legacy of Dubai’s rulers and the Al Maktoum family.

The initiative seeks to ensure future generations have access to the emirate’s cultural and historical heritage.

The archives, overseen by the Executive Office of Sheikh Mohammed, will house comprehensive records, biographies, literary works, and collections of Dubai’s rulers. It will also serve as a hub for publications, media content, and educational resources highlighting their intellectual, humanitarian, and cultural contributions.

Sheikh Mohammed described the archives as a

“national archive and an open book offering insights on the history of governance in Dubai as a model for advancing development.”

He emphasized its role in strengthening national history and documenting leadership experiences for the benefit of future generations.

The launch event featured a screening of a documentary on Dubai’s rulers, displays of historical photographs dating back to 1894, and rare images of past Al Maktoum rulers. Attendees included senior members of Dubai’s ruling family and key officials from the government and cultural institutions.

The archives will also create a digital record of Dubai’s rulers, train national talent in archival management, and serve as a reference for researchers, academics, and policymakers. It will collect oral histories, conduct interviews, document artifacts, and produce audiovisual content to chronicle the emirate’s transformation.

In parallel, Sheikh Mohammed issued Decree No. 44 of 2025 establishing the Board of Directors of the Al Maktoum Archives Foundation. The board will include senior officials and experts to guide the institution’s mission and ensure its integration with regional and international cultural initiatives.

The Al Maktoum Archives is poised to become a cornerstone for preserving Dubai’s leadership legacy and sharing its historical journey with the world.
