His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has reviewed Dubai’s 2030 Blue and Green Spaces Roadmap, a major urban development initiative that will channel more than AED4 billion into expanding parks, beaches, waterfronts, and green infrastructure to enhance quality of life and sustainability across the emirate.
The roadmap, launched by Dubai Municipality during the World Governments Summit, outlines a comprehensive strategy to embed nature as a core component of Dubai’s long-term urban growth. It aims to create a balanced and integrated urban ecosystem that supports human wellbeing while strengthening the city’s global standing as a leading sustainable metropolis.
Sheikh Mohammed was accompanied by senior members of the ruling family, ministers, and top officials, including H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Mohammad Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of the World Governments Summit.
Designed to align with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, the roadmap integrates parks, beaches, public facilities, afforestation, biodiversity conservation, and advanced recycling systems into a unified framework. By 2030, it will transform nature into an active element of urban infrastructure and significantly improve public access to green and blue spaces.
Key targets include planting around 1.5 million trees over five years, delivering more than 45 landscaping and beautification projects, and adding 120 new parks covering nearly three million square metres. The plan also features 200 sports and recreational spaces linked through green networks.
Dubai Municipality will expand beach amenities by 400%, increase public beach capacity by 150%, and extend walking, jogging, and cycling tracks along the coastline by 285%. More than 15 major coastal projects and three new beach destinations annually will further activate waterfronts as vibrant urban assets.
Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said the roadmap positions beaches, parks, and public spaces as integrated infrastructure, reinforcing Dubai’s commitment to a human-centric, resilient, and sustainable city built for current and future generations.
