The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) organized a scientific workshop in Dubai titled "Prepare for the Unexpected," focusing on enhancing food safety.
The event gathered representatives from food safety authorities, public health experts, and specialists to discuss measures for preventing, detecting, and managing foodborne disease risks.
Dr. Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Public Health Sector, inaugurated the workshop, which is part of MoHAP’s ongoing initiatives to promote public health and ensure food safety. The workshop aligns with the National Nutrition Strategy 2030, aiming to establish sustainable dietary practices, ensure safe nutritional environments, and reduce the prevalence of diseases linked to dietary risk factors and foodborne illnesses.
Dr. Al Rand highlighted the importance of cooperation and knowledge sharing among stakeholders to ensure food safety. He emphasized the role of innovative initiatives and campaigns in raising awareness about the impact of diet on health and the Ministry's efforts to develop preventive systems to curb the spread of foodborne diseases.
Key topics included the "National Program for Monitoring and Investigating Foodborne Diseases" and the role of modern technologies and artificial intelligence in predicting food safety risks. Discussions also addressed the challenges of emerging foodborne diseases and their ongoing impact.
A panel discussion explored opportunities and challenges in food safety, stressing the importance of innovation and technology in enhancing food safety systems. Participants called for greater cooperation and coordination among all relevant entities to ensure the provision of safe and healthy food and highlighted the need to raise public awareness about food safety and its direct impact on public health.
