The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) recently held a workshop titled "Developing Frameworks Related to the Governance of Health Research Ethics in the UAE," bringing together key stakeholders from the health sector, academic institutions, and the private sector.

The event aimed to review and improve the regulatory frameworks established by the National Centre for Health Research, in collaboration with Monash University, Australia.

Dr. Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for the Public Health Sector, opened the workshop, emphasizing the importance of enhancing the health research system in the UAE to maintain excellence and global leadership in healthcare innovation. Participants engaged in discussions focused on frameworks that align with international best practices, addressing key areas such as health research ethics, the roles of health research ethics committees, accreditation mechanisms, and responsible research conduct.

MoHAP Undersecretary Dr. Mohammed Salim Al Olama reaffirmed the ministry's commitment to collaborating with local and international partners to standardize regulations governing health research. He emphasized the necessity of establishing unified regulations to safeguard participants' rights and ensure ethical practices, particularly in clinical research.

Dr. Khalil Ibrahim Qayed, Director of the National Centre for Health Research, highlighted the significance of unifying health research ethics frameworks to uphold scientific integrity and transparency. He noted that partnerships are vital for sharing experiences and insights, fostering a sustainable research environment, and enhancing the UAE’s status as a leader in health research.

The workshop reflects MoHAP's dedication to supporting health research initiatives that improve healthcare quality and innovation in the UAE.
