The UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), in collaboration with Emirates Health Services, the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, and the Dubai Health Authority, has announced the National Supplementary Measles Immunisation Campaign 2024.
Themed “Protect Yourself, Protect Your Community,” this initiative aims to boost immunity among children through an additional dose of the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine for those aged 1 to 7.
This campaign aligns with the national measles elimination programme and the global goal of eradicating measles by 2030. By prioritizing vaccination as the safest preventive measure, the campaign aims to secure high vaccination coverage, contributing to a preventive and health-focused society. The MoHAP considers this effort essential for sustainable development and the well-being of future generations.
Dr. Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Public Health Sector, underscored the campaign's role within the National Policy on Vaccinations, a framework targeting communicable diseases. He emphasized that the MoHAP remains committed to combating infectious diseases through robust surveillance, strategic vaccination coverage, and collaboration across health facilities.
"Our adherence to WHO protocols ensures safety and efficacy, significantly reducing measles cases,"
said Dr. Al Rand, adding that the UAE aims for 100% vaccination coverage among targeted groups by 2030.
Dr. Nada Al Marzouqi, Director of Public Health and Prevention, highlighted the importance of parental involvement, encouraging families to visit designated health centres and clinics for vaccination. Emphasizing community participation as essential for campaign success, she noted that medical teams are available to answer questions and support parents throughout the process.
The campaign reinforces the UAE’s leadership in immunization efforts, with a strong commitment to high community immunity and public health resilience.
