The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has registered over 1,800 companies in the electronic Labour Accommodation System, a national platform aimed at improving worker housing standards across the UAE.
The system ensures the comfort and well-being of approximately 1.5 million workers residing in labour accommodations that meet the highest standards of health, safety, and comfort.
Mohsin Ali Al Nassi, Assistant Undersecretary for Inspection Affairs at MoHRE, emphasized the Ministry's commitment to maintaining top-tier labour accommodation standards. Al Nassi stated,
"We aim to enhance the quality of life for workers in line with the UAE Government’s vision of creating an attractive work environment."
Field inspections, carried out regularly by the Ministry, ensure that companies comply with regulations. Inspections cover aspects such as building safety, ventilation, air conditioning, and sanitation services. During the recent campaign from May 20 to June 7, 2024, 352 violations were flagged, including inadequate ventilation and safety issues. Companies were given time to rectify these violations, with administrative fines imposed where necessary.
MoHRE continues to urge companies employing 50 or more workers to register in the Labour Accommodation System and adhere to housing standards, highlighting the importance of worker well-being in promoting a productive and competitive labour market.
The Emirates Labour Market Award, which includes a category for Labour Accommodation, recognises companies excelling in this field, further enhancing the UAE’s reputation as a global destination for living, working, and investing.
