Dubai’s Museum of the Future received 20,000 completed job applications within the first 48 hours of its “Future Perfects” recruitment campaign, which prioritises human capabilities and practical skills over academic qualifications and professional experience.
Launched on October 21, the campaign aims to recruit staff for a new visitor experience set to open in 2027. The museum’s website recorded 42,000 visits over the same period.
Applicants do not need previous experience in museums or customer service. The selection process instead focuses on communication, active listening, storytelling, problem-solving and the ability to respond positively to different situations. It begins with a recorded audition submitted with the online application, requiring no advance preparation. Shortlisted candidates then face in-person assessments based on real visitor scenarios, followed by final auditions before a panel of experts.
The campaign has also reached the public through interactive audition platforms at Virgin Megastore, Roxy Cinemas and Dubai Design Week.
The approach reflects a wider global conversation. An OECD report published in June 2026, “A Skills-First Labour Market”, noted that qualifications and experience do not capture the full range of a person’s abilities. A 2024 study by Harvard Business School and the Burning Glass Institute found a gap between organisations’ stated commitment to skills-based hiring and what happens in practice.
The museum has welcomed more than five million visitors from over 180 nationalities since opening in 2022, which calls for staff who can engage with different cultures and explain future-oriented ideas.
Azza Abdulaziz Al Nuaimi, Chief Operating Officer at the Museum of the Future, said the museum reconsidered both the skills it needs and how to identify them, giving candidates a chance to show their potential.
Successful candidates will join the visitor experience team in full-time roles and receive specialised training ahead of the 2027 launch. Applications remain open until November 8 at Futureperfects.ae.
