H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture, inaugurated the ‘Narratives of Belonging’ exhibition at the Al Safa Art & Design Library.
Running until 18th October, the exhibition showcases the creativity of 23 Emirati artists, offering diverse perspectives on heritage, culture, and identity.
During her visit, H.H. Sheikha Latifa praised the participating artists for their innovative works that transcend traditional artistic boundaries, emphasizing the exhibition’s role in fostering a sustainable artistic environment. She noted,
“The exhibition highlights the strength of Emirati art, deeply rooted in a rich history of intellectual and cultural heritage, fostering meaningful cultural dialogue and collaboration.”
‘Narratives of Belonging’ features a range of artistic expressions, from painting and sculpture to poetry and interactive installations. Highlights include works by renowned artists such as Dr. Najat Makki, Nujoom Al Ghanem, and the late Hassan Sharif. The exhibition explores themes of belonging, identity, and the collective Emirati experience, from Roudha Al Mazrouei’s depiction of nomadic lifestyles to Salmah Al Mansoori’s vibrant portrayal of her hometown Ghayathi.
The event offers a platform for artists to reflect on the dynamic interplay between tradition and modernity, encouraging the exchange of ideas and inspiring future artistic endeavors. The exhibition is poised to make a lasting impact on Dubai’s growing creative landscape.
