Dubai Introduces New Salik Gates: Business Bay Expected to See High Traffic

Dubai to Add Two New Salik Gates by November, Bringing Total to 10.

Dubai's road network is set for a significant update with the addition of two new Salik toll gates at Business Bay Crossing and Al Safa South, expected to be operational by the end of November 2024. This will increase the total number of Salik gates in the emirate to 10, further streamlining traffic management across the city.

The new Business Bay Crossing gate is anticipated to be one of the busiest toll points in Dubai, potentially rivaling the traffic seen at the Al Barsha and Al Safa gates, which are currently the emirate's most trafficked toll points.

According to Maged Ibrahim, Chief Financial Officer of Salik, studies show that the Business Bay Crossing will have traffic levels comparable to these key revenue-generating gates, making it a major contributor to Salik’s income.

Al Barsha and Al Safa gates currently account for 20.7% and 19.0% of Salik’s revenue-generating trips, respectively. With the new gates, Salik expects an additional 111 million revenue-generating trips in 2025.

The toll gates are not only pivotal for managing traffic but also play a crucial role in Dubai’s infrastructure development. The Salik Board has approved the valuation of the Business Bay and Al Safa South gates at Dh2.734 billion, with the Business Bay gate alone valued at Dh2.265 billion.

The new additions are expected to further ease congestion and optimize the flow of vehicles, particularly during the peak fourth quarter, which has historically seen the highest number of road trips in Dubai.

These strategic expansions underscore Salik's ongoing commitment to enhancing the efficiency of Dubai’s road network while continuing to generate significant revenue for the emirate.
