Noor Dubai Foundation Launches Tele-Ophthalmology Program in Nepalprogramme in Nepal
Noor Dubai Foundation has launched a new tele-ophthalmology initiative in Nepal, partnering with Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh (NNJS) to enhance eye care accessibility in remote areas.
This three-year program will serve 15 health centers, aiming to provide primary care, expert consultations, and training.
With 6.8 million people suffering from vision loss in Nepal and only 8.4 ophthalmologists per million, the project seeks to reach 433,000 patients and enable expert reviews for 82,000 individuals through telemedicine. The initiative involves training 15 allied ophthalmic staff and 6 ophthalmologists, while connecting 15 primary and 2 tertiary eye centers to improve health infrastructure.
Supported by an investment of AED 1,070,252, the program is expected to benefit 11 million people and aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) focused on health, infrastructure, and reducing inequality.
Dr. Manal Taryam, CEO of Noor Dubai Foundation, emphasized the commitment to maximizing impact and accessibility in eye care.
Prof. Dr. Chet Raj Pant, Chairperson of NNJS, noted that tele-ophthalmology will bridge the gap between rural citizens and specialist eye services, transforming healthcare delivery in Nepal.
