e&, a global technology group serving over 175 million subscribers across 34 countries, has announced a strategic partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS), the world’s leading cloud provider.

This collaboration follows AWS’s establishment of its second Middle East cloud region in the UAE in 2022, part of a planned US$5 billion investment aimed at bolstering the local economy through 2036.

The alliance combines AWS’s sovereign cloud infrastructure with e&’s network capabilities, catering to stringent requirements in sectors such as healthcare, finance, and oil and gas. The partnership is set to deliver secure and scalable cloud solutions, further enhancing e&’s role as a pivotal player in the UAE’s digital economy.

As part of the collaboration, e& and AWS signed an agreement worth over $1 billion (AED 3.7 billion) over the next six years. This deal will focus on advancing cloud services, including storage, computing, networking, and cybersecurity, as well as integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) capabilities.

The partnership will modernize e&’s platforms, including its majority-owned streaming service, Starzplay Arabia, and the all-encompassing app Careem. Additionally, AWS will facilitate small and medium-sized enterprises in accessing the AWS Marketplace, democratizing cloud service utilization.

Hatem Dowidar, Group CEO of e&, emphasized the partnership's role in creating an ecosystem that meets current digital needs while fostering future growth.

Meanwhile, Tanuja Randery, Vice President at AWS, highlighted the collaboration as a significant step toward supporting UAE Vision 2031, reinforcing AWS's commitment to innovation and economic progress in the region.
