Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has completed 65 percent of a major bridge project that will provide direct access between Sheikh Zayed Road and Dubai Harbour.

The 1,500-metre bridge, featuring two lanes in each direction, is designed to significantly cut travel times and enhance connectivity to the landmark waterfront destination.

The contractor has also finalised 90 percent of utility upgrades and traffic diversion works, ensuring smooth traffic flow during construction. The project is on track for completion in the third quarter of 2026.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, RTA Director General, said the bridge reflects Dubai’s commitment to integrated infrastructure that supports rapid urban and economic growth. He highlighted the collaboration with private-sector partners to align transport projects with urban development along the emirate’s waterfront, improving mobility and quality of life.

The bridge extends from Interchange 5 on Sheikh Zayed Road near the American University in Dubai, passing key intersections before connecting to Dubai Harbour Street. Once completed, it will accommodate approximately 6,000 vehicles per hour and reduce travel time from 12 minutes to three minutes.

Abdulla Binhabtoor, CEO of Shamal Holding, said the bridge strengthens Dubai Harbour’s position as a connected maritime hub. He emphasised that the project supports long-term urban planning, seamless accessibility, and sustainable commuting options for residents and visitors.

Dubai Harbour, located between Bluewaters Island and Palm Jumeirah, is home to the Middle East’s largest yacht marinas and a mix of residential, retail, and leisure developments. The surrounding 1.5-kilometre area is undergoing further expansion, including 24 towers with around 7,500 apartments, enhancing its role as a premier waterfront destination.
