RTA Awards AED696.414 Million Contract for Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has awarded a contract for the Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project, valued at AED696.414 million, aimed at transforming one of the city’s most vital intersections.

The project links Sheikh Zayed Road with five main streets: Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, Sheikh Rashid Street, 2nd December Street, Zabeel Palace Street, and Al Mustaqbal Street.

This extensive project includes constructing five bridges totaling 5,000 meters and converting the existing roundabout into a surface intersection to streamline traffic. Notably, traffic from Sheikh Zayed Road to 2nd December Street and from Al Mustaqbal Street southbound to Sheikh Zayed Road will experience improved flow, along with routes serving Dubai’s business hubs, the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), and Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).

Mattar Al Tayer, RTA Director-General and Chairman, highlighted the project’s potential to double the intersection’s capacity and significantly reduce travel time.

"This development will cut delays from 12 minutes to 90 seconds, and reduce travel time from Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street from six minutes to one,"

Al Tayer stated.

The project will also serve key areas, benefiting over half a million residents and visitors in Zabeel, Al Satwa, Karama, Jafiliya, and Mankhool. Concurrently, RTA has awarded a contract for the Oud Metha and Al Asayel Streets Development Project, including 14 km of road upgrades and bridge construction, which is expected to reduce travel time from 20 to five minutes by 2030.
