In a major step to enhance Dubai’s road infrastructure and mobility network, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded a contract worth AED786 million to construct direct access points from Bur Dubai to Dubai Islands.
This initiative aligns with directives from Dubai’s leadership and falls under the traffic solutions agreement between RTA and Dubai Holding.

The project features a 1,425-metre-long bridge with four lanes in each direction, accommodating up to 16,000 vehicles per hour. Spanning over Dubai Creek between Infinity Bridge and Port Rashid Development, the bridge will stand 18.5 metres above water, with a 75-metre-wide navigational channel to facilitate marine traffic.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, highlighted that the project also includes a dedicated pedestrian and cycling path with elevators, as well as 2,000 metres of connecting roads on both the Dubai Islands and Bur Dubai sides.
This marks the second contract under the Dubai Islands access initiative. The first phase, completed in 2020, delivered three bridges totaling 1.6 km, enhancing traffic flow between Dubai Islands and Al Khaleej Street.
The new development forms part of the Al Shindagha Corridor Project—one of RTA’s flagship undertakings—aimed at upgrading 15 intersections over 13 km. Once completed, it will reduce travel times from 104 minutes to just 16, benefiting an estimated one million residents and delivering AED45 billion in economic savings over two decades.
The project underscores Dubai’s continued investment in smart, future-ready transport solutions to meet the demands of rapid urban growth.
