RTA Awards Contract for Key Infrastructure Development in Dubai
In a significant move to enhance Dubai's infrastructure, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded a contract for the Oud Metha and Al Asayel Streets Development Project, part of the larger Sheikh Rashid Corridor Development.
This initiative aligns with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and is closely monitored by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
The project aims to connect Al Asayel Street to Al Khail Road via Al Nawras Street, providing efficient exits to Oud Metha and Al Nawras Streets. According to Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General of the RTA, this infrastructure upgrade is essential for accommodating the anticipated population growth in Dubai.
Key features of the development include the construction of four major intersections, 4,300 meters of bridges, and 14 kilometers of roads. By 2030, it is expected to serve over 420,000 residents and enhance the capacity of Oud Metha Street from 10,400 vehicles per hour to 15,600, effectively reducing travel time from 20 minutes to just 5.
The project will involve substantial improvements at critical intersections. Notably, the first intersection at Oud Metha Street and Sheikh Rashid Street will add a left-turn lane, boosting capacity significantly. Other enhancements include new bridges and expanded lanes to improve traffic flow towards major areas such as Zabeel and Al Jaddaf.
This initiative forms part of RTA's ongoing commitment to developing strategic road networks, which have previously improved travel times and traffic safety across Dubai. The comprehensive upgrades reflect the city's vision for sustainable urban growth and enhanced connectivity.
