Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has awarded a contract to develop three large-scale truck rest areas through a public-private partnership, marking a significant step in strengthening the emirate’s logistics infrastructure and improving driver safety.

The facilities will span more than 210,000 square metres and accommodate up to 490 trucks and heavy vehicles. Strategically located along key transport corridors and logistics hubs, the sites are designed to handle high daily traffic while meeting international safety standards in layout and access.

According to Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at Roads and Transport Authority, the initiative supports Dubai’s growing logistics sector, which records over 500,000 truck trips daily. With around 85,000 registered trucks in the emirate, the demand for specialised infrastructure continues to rise.

The three sites will be located near Jebel Ali 3, Saih Shuaib close to Dubai Industrial City, and Madinat Hind 2 along Emirates Road. Each facility will offer integrated services including maintenance centres, logistics warehouses, driver accommodation, retail outlets, and electric vehicle charging points. Select locations will also feature training and testing centres focused on safety.

The project aims to reduce random roadside parking, improve traffic flow, and enhance overall road safety. It also aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 by supporting efficient, resilient, and sustainable supply chains.

RTA officials noted that the partnership model reflects a broader shift towards modern infrastructure delivery, combining private sector expertise with public sector planning to boost operational efficiency and economic sustainability.
