RTA Boosts Dubai’s Taxi Sector with Surge in Electronic Bookings
Dubai’s taxi sector has made significant strides over the past year, driven by the Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) strategic shift towards electronic booking.
This initiative has enhanced sustainability and improved traffic flow, encouraging residents and visitors to embrace modern ride-hailing technologies.
Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at RTA’s Public Transport Agency, revealed that electronically booked taxi trips surged by 16% in 2024 compared to 2023. Meanwhile, Hala Ride, a leading ride-hailing service, saw its market share during peak hours increase from 42% to 50%. This shift reduced the need for approximately 7,600 traditional taxis operating daily, reflecting a notable optimization of resources.
The benefits of this transformation extend to both passengers and drivers. Over 74% of electronically booked trips achieved arrival times of less than 3.5 minutes, indicating high customer satisfaction. Drivers also experienced improved efficiency, with a daily driving time reduction of 50 minutes and a 4% decrease in travel distances.
The RTA’s efforts underscore Dubai’s commitment to adopting smart mobility solutions that align with its sustainability goals and enhance the urban commuting experience. This shift to digital platforms marks a transformative chapter in the emirate’s public transport sector.
