Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed 141 new bus shelters, marking a significant milestone in its initiative to build 762 shelters across key locations in the city.
The project, which is currently 40% complete, aims to provide improved facilities for public transport users, with full completion expected by the end of 2025.
These modern shelters, designed with user-friendly features, are expected to serve over 182 million riders annually once the entire project is finished. Each shelter accommodates multiple bus routes, with some serving more than 10 routes, catering to the city's growing population.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of RTA, emphasized that the project reflects the authority’s commitment to enhancing public transport infrastructure.
"This initiative supports Dubai’s urban growth and population expansion, ensuring safe and world-class services for residents and visitors,"
he said.
The shelters are strategically placed in high-density areas to meet current and future transportation needs. The project also incorporates features like air conditioning, shaded outdoor areas, and information screens displaying bus schedules and network maps.
The new shelters are designed with accessibility in mind, in line with Dubai’s "My Community... A City for Everyone" initiative, which aims to make the city more inclusive for people of determination. The shelters comply with the Dubai Code for People of Determination, offering dedicated spaces for wheelchair users.
With ongoing efforts to install more shelters and integrate them with other transport options, RTA is committed to providing convenient, efficient, and accessible public transportation for all.
