The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has completed the construction of 40 air-conditioned rest areas for delivery riders in strategic locations across the emirate.
This initiative is part of RTA’s ongoing efforts to enhance road safety, improve quality of life, and provide essential services to delivery riders, offering them comfort while awaiting new orders.
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, emphasized the importance of this project in ensuring safety for delivery riders, particularly in light of the sector’s rapid growth. As of June 2023, Dubai hosts 2,535 companies offering motorcycle delivery services with a fleet of 46,600 bikes. The rest areas are designed to minimize sun exposure while providing air-conditioned seating for up to 10 riders. Each facility also features dedicated motorcycle parking spaces.
Strategically placed in key locations like Hessa Street, Al Karama, Business Bay, Dubai Marina, and Al Garhoud, the rest areas were selected based on operational data and demand for delivery services.
This initiative is part of RTA's broader strategy to improve road safety and align with Dubai's “Zero Fatalities” Traffic Safety Strategy. Al Tayer also highlighted the RTA’s Delivery Service Excellence Award, which promotes high service standards, road safety, and regulatory compliance within the sector.
The award recognizes top delivery companies, riders, and partners, with the upcoming second edition set to further elevate service quality and professionalism in Dubai’s growing delivery sector.
