Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has completed 595 new public bus shelters, marking a major step toward enhancing the city’s public transport infrastructure.
The project, which will deliver a total of 762 shelters across key urban areas, has now reached 89 percent completion.
The new shelters combine contemporary design with passenger-focused services, aiming to improve comfort, convenience, and overall user experience. Each shelter serves multiple bus routes, with some accommodating more than ten routes, supporting over 192 million annual passengers.
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, RTA Director General, highlighted that the initiative aligns with Dubai’s goals for sustainable and integrated urban mobility.
“The shelters reinforce public confidence in the transport network while promoting comfort, well-being, and emissions reduction,”
he said.
The locations of the shelters were carefully selected to serve high-density areas and meet both current and future operational needs. RTA has classified the shelters into four categories based on daily passenger usage, ranging from primary stops with more than 750 passengers to boarding and alighting stops serving fewer than 100.
Primary shelters feature air-conditioned areas, shaded seating, advertising spaces, and digital screens displaying route maps, schedules, and key passenger information. The design fully complies with the Dubai Universal Design Code, providing dedicated spaces for wheelchair users and supporting the city’s “My Community… A City for Everyone” initiative.
The project demonstrates RTA’s ongoing commitment to modernizing Dubai’s public transport network, enhancing service efficiency, and creating an inclusive urban environment that encourages residents and visitors to rely on sustainable mobility options.
