Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully concluded its annual preventive maintenance programme for the Dubai Metro, covering train refurbishment and rail grinding.

This initiative aligns with RTA’s Strategic Plan 2030, emphasizing safety, efficiency, and sustainability in urban transport while cementing Dubai Metro’s role as a cornerstone of the emirate’s public transportation network.

Key activities included rail grinding along the Red and Green Lines, spanning a total of 189 km. Rail grinding, which removes surface defects and restores rail specifications, ensures the longevity and reliability of the tracks. The RTA employed advanced grinding equipment with 16 stones, operated by skilled teams, to uphold the highest safety and quality standards.

In parallel, RTA completed the refurbishment of its 79-train fleet, which has collectively covered over 1.5 million kilometers since the Metro’s launch. The extensive maintenance has elevated train availability and punctuality to an impressive 99.7%, positioning Dubai Metro among the world’s most reliable systems. This proactive approach reduces long-term costs, enhances operational efficiency, and minimizes the need for corrective maintenance.

Hassan Al Mutawa, Director of Rail Maintenance at RTA, highlighted the programme's significance:

“Our preventive maintenance is key to operational excellence and sustainability. By implementing initiatives like rail grinding and fleet refurbishment, we ensure the safety, efficiency, and reliability of Dubai Metro, while setting new benchmarks for urban transportation. These measures contribute to infrastructure sustainability, cost reduction, and environmental responsibility, supporting Dubai’s vision for a carbon-free future.”

The programme underscores Dubai’s commitment to delivering safe, comfortable, and environmentally sustainable transport for residents and visitors alike.
