Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully completed traffic enhancements at over 50 locations across the city in 2024, part of its broader strategy to improve road network efficiency and ensure smoother traffic flow.
The initiative, aligned with Dubai’s urban expansion and population growth, addresses increasing traffic volumes and prioritizes safety for all road users.
These upgrades are a significant component of RTA’s long-term mobility strategy, aiming to position Dubai as a leading city for living and mobility.
“The traffic solutions have significantly boosted road efficiency, improved vehicle flow, and reduced travel times by up to 60%,”
said Hussain Al Banna, CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency at RTA.
“In several areas, road capacity has increased by up to 20%.”
Key improvements include the widening of Beirut Street, upgrades to the Al Khawaneej Street and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Street intersection, and expansions from Al Rebat Street to Business Bay Crossing. Additionally, a new route now links Al Khail Road to Meydan Street.
RTA also introduced eight traffic improvement projects near over 37 schools, enhancing road safety and flow during peak hours. School zones in areas such as Umm Suqeim, Al Warqa, and Al Safa saw road widening, additional parking, and optimized entry and exit points, improving traffic flow by 20%.
Notable improvements also include the extension of Exit 55 leading to Al Rebat Street, increasing lane capacity and reducing travel time by 60%. RTA’s plans for 2025 include over 75 further traffic upgrades to enhance Dubai's infrastructure and mobility.
