Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has intensified its use of smart systems and artificial intelligence across the public bus network, significantly improving operational efficiency, service reliability, and commuter satisfaction, according to Director-General Mattar Al Tayer.

Covering 88% of the emirate, RTA’s fleet of 1,390 buses now completes 11,000 trips daily and serves over 500,000 passengers. In 2024, the bus system recorded 188 million users — an 8% rise from the previous year — reflecting growing confidence in public transport. The bus network spans 187 routes, including links to the metro and tram systems, with on-time performance exceeding 77%.

Al Tayer highlighted that the integration of buses with other transit modes and the expansion of dedicated bus and taxi lanes are key to reducing traffic congestion and travel times. A new phase of this expansion, covering 13 kilometres across six corridors, will raise the total length of dedicated lanes to 20 kilometres. This move is projected to cut journey times by 41% and increase bus ridership by 10%.

The RTA has also introduced modern bus stations that meet international transport integration standards. These hubs support first- and last-mile connectivity and feature inclusive designs for People of Determination, as well as amenities for cyclists and pedestrians.

The bus fleet, compliant with Euro 6 low-emission standards, is equipped with safety and comfort features, including low-entry access and dedicated spaces for people with mobility needs.

These developments are part of RTA’s broader strategy to promote sustainable mobility, reduce reliance on private vehicles, and create a more efficient, integrated transport system for Dubai’s growing population.
